Puri’s Book “Hinduism Beyond Rituals, Customs And Traditions” Launched!
SURREY – Veteran journalist and founder of the LINK newspaper Promod Puri is one of the senior-most South Asian journalists and humanists in Canada.
Recently he published a well researched book “Hinduism beyond rituals, customs and traditions”, which was launched by the Global Hindu Foundation of Canada on April 24 at Strawberry Hill Public Library in Surrey among prominent literary and social activists.
Book is a practical manual leading to clear conception of rituals, customs and practices and an easily understood account of Hindu Way of Life- the management of self.
Acharya S.P. Dwivedi, the President of GHFOC started the program with his welcoming address followed by Kanti Dwivedi’s Saraswati Vandana. The book launch was carried by Acharya, Rita Puri, Kanti, Dwivedi, Ashok Puri and Deepa Sharma amid roaring sound of clapping.
Author Promod Puri read some important pieces from his book and that was incredibly impressive.
Ashok Bhragava a prominent writer and president of WIN reflected his views on book. He found that Puri’s explanations are logical, concise and clear. He exposed adequately the serious problem of caste system in Hindu society and for that he should be congratulated.
Simmi Gopal Puri, Manager of Communication, Faculty of Law, UBC presented the touching experiences with gratitude that how nicely she was taught by her father- Puri about Hindu religious symbolism, myths, spirituality and traditions.
Jai Birdi, President of Chetna Society applauded Promod Puri for his outspokenness about the evils of Hindu customs and recognizing the splendid contribution of Dr. Ambedkar towards promoting the condition of Dalit, Achhoot and Naari.
Acharya Dwivedi commented , “Puri tried to look the Hindu religion with fresh eyes and applied analytical approach. He found that there is much wood which is diseased and dead in Hinduism that is to be cleared away”. Puri was offered a plaque, honoring him for his life time contribution to journalism and humanism, by the members of the Executive of GHFOC- Acharya, Kanti and Deepa.
The multi language Kavi Darbar/Mushaira took place after the book -launch ceremony and it was sponsored by the South Asian Literary Society of Canada, Hindi Literary Society of Canada and Writers International Network Canada.
M. Rafiq an Urdu scholar conducted it eloquently and it was chaired by the reputed poet Nadeem Parmar. The following writers of Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu languages participated in the poetry recital session- Shailendra Pathak, Jitendra Kumar, Mohan Gill, Inrderjit Dhami, Amrik Plahi, Herdev Sodhi “Ashak”, A.H.Kadri, Neena Sethi, Dr.B.K.Singh, Ashok Bhargava, Huma Shoaib, Taimoor Khan, Brajinder Dhillon and Krishan Bhanot.
