CHANDIGARH – “Ï saved many Sikhs during the 1984 riots,” former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler said today while reacting to a statement by Akali leader and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who accused him of involvement in the anti-Sikh riots.

In a letter to Harsimrat, Tytler said she should check the facts before making such a statement.

“The CBI has given me the clean chit four times, of which two were during the tenure of the BJP-led Central Government in which the Akalis were a partner,” he said.

Tytler added that he saved hundreds of families during the riots. “Ï come from a Sikh family and cannot think of being remotely connected to such a heinous crime against any community. You (Harsimrat) are in the government. You have access to all the records. You can see that my name has not been mentioned anywhere,” he said.

Harsimrat had reportedly yesterday said that people like Tytler had still not been punished for their ‘involvement’ in the riots.
