LUDHIANA – In a gruesome incident, a 26-year-old woman was gang-raped and killed by three drunk men at her house located near Samrala Chowk here late last night.
The victim’s right arm was chopped off when she tried to resist. The accused after raping the victim attempted to gag her to death. Later, the accused threw her from the roof top of the house, killing her on the spot.
The victim, a mother of three daughters, was suffering from tuberculosis. She was married in Bihar and was visiting her parents, along with her youngest daughter, for treatment.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) of Division No. 7 police station Harpal Singh Grewal, all accused had been arrested. The trio had been booked for murder and rape. They were identified as Johar, Pappu, both from Bihar, and Balvir Singh, who is from Gurdaspur. They were working at a factory unit in Jodhewal Basti area and living as tenants in the victim’s house located in the EWS colony.
The incident took place last night when the victim’s parents had left home to attend a wedding. The victim’s 18-year-old younger brother decided to stay back at home.
According to the police, the trio thought that the victim was alone. They consumed liquor and entered her room. Before she could react, the trio overpowered the victim and tied her arms. They put cloth into her mouth so that she could not scream. Then they took her to the roof top.
In a statement to the police, the victim’s brother said at 1.30 am he heard some noise from the roof top. Later, he heard a loud thud following which he rushed outside the house only to find the blood-soaked body of his sister. The victim’s hand had been chopped off and her clothes were tattered.
The victim’s brother raised an alarm following which the accused tried to flee but the neighbours nabbed them. They thrashed the victims before the police arrived. The victim’s body was later sent to the Civil Hospital where a board of doctors conducted a post-mortem. The accused told the police that they were looking for an opportunity to establish physical relations with the victim.
