MOGA – A 19-year-old Dalit girl studying in Class XII reportedly consumed some poisonous substance after she was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man at Melak Kanga village in Dharamkot sub-division, police sources said.
The victim was rushed to the District Hospital, Moga, where her condition was stated to be stable.
The sources said two youths of her village went to the school in the morning yesterday and told her that her father had met with an accident and that they had come to take her along.
When the girl accompanied them, they forcibly took her to an undisclosed location on a motorcycle. On the way, they covered her face and tied her hands. One of the youths then allegedly raped her. Later, they abandoned the girl on the outskirts of her village.
In the meantime, her school friends went to her house to enquire about her father. The girl’s mother told them that her father did not meet with any accident.
The victim later reached home and narrated the incident to her parents. She then went inside her room and allegedly consumed some poisonous substance. She was rushed to a private hospital at Fatehgarh Panchtoor from where she was referred to the District Hospital.
In her statement to the police, the victim has named two youths who kidnapped her and sexually abused her. The police have registered a criminal case under Section 376 of the IPC and launched a hunt to nab the culprits.
