A delegation of Indian public and private sector companies explored opportunities for business and collaboration in the ‪Sustainable Hydro sector during a recent visit to Canada.

Facilitated by the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service in India, the delegation visited Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto and met with government officials, Canadian companies and industry experts.

Notably, the delegation had a bilateral discussion with Natural Resources Canada, held a roundtable with 16 Canadian companies, attended the Canadian Hydropower Association’s annual forum on hydropower and visited ‪‎hydroelectric generation stations.

The visit introduced Canadian expertise to key hydropower players in India. The Indian delegation also explored innovations, technologies and sustainable approaches being developed in Canada. The interactions with the Indian delegation also enabled the Canadian companies to understand and explore opportunities in India.

The delegation to Canada is part of an ongoing series of engagements which include a two-day workshop on Sustainable Hydropower Development in New Delhi on January 21 and 22, and a roundtable in Shillong on February 27.

The workshop in New Delhi earlier this year, organized by the High Commission of Canada in partnership with the Ministry of Power, Govt of India, and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, brought together 115 representatives of Indian government organizations, state electricity boards and the private sector along with delegations from Bhutan and Nepal, as well as experts from Canada and from international organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and International Finance Corporation.

The roundtable in Shillong enabled Canadian Trade Commissioners to share Canada’s expertise in the clean-tech sector with officials and decision-makers from Nepal and the Indian states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim.
