Dreaded Gangster Lehmbar And His Gang Held And Guns Seized

LUDHIANA – The Ludhiana rural police arrested dreaded gangster Gurpreet Singh Lehmbar along with his 10 accomplices on late Saturday night from Galib Kalan village, in Jagraon sub-division of the district, 40 km from Ludhiana city. The police have recovered cache of weapons from their possession.

The gang members were at their accomplice Gopal Singh’s house when the police conducted a raid and arrested them, said LK Yadav, inspector general (IG, Jalandhar Zone-2). They were hatching a conspiracy to target their next loot.

During the questioning, the accused admitted that they wanted to eradicate their rivals and for that they had amassed weapons, said police. The police have also booked Gopal Singh, who is a bank employee. He fled from the spot.

The accomplices of Lehmbar have been identified as Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa and Sanjiv Kumar alias Sanju of Noorwala road in Ludhiana, Davinder Singh alias Computer of Badhni Kalan in Moga, Harjinder Singh alias Jinder of Shehna in Barnala, Sukhvir Singh alias Sukha of Dharmkot in Moga, Davinder Singh alias Bindar of Rasulpur village of Hathoor, Lakhwinderpal Sharma alias Lucky of Dharmkot of Moga, Gurpreet Singh alias Deepa of Kaunke Kalan of Jagraon, Gurmanjot Singh of Chakar of Jagraon and Gursewak Singh alias Goga of Baddowal.

The police have recovered 5 rifles of .315 bore, 3 rifles of 12 bore, 3 pistols and 140 cartridges from their possession.

Yadav said that accused were active in various areas of Punjab and had committed loot, robbery and murders. SSP, Ludhiana Rural, Opinderjit Singh Ghumman said the gang had gunned down Hargunjit Singh alias Gunna of Bujrag village in Jagraon in 2010 in public view in Tehsil

Few months ago a member of Lehmbar gang was killed. Lehmbar was arrested and lodged in jail. He was bailed out three months ago and indulged in criminal activities.

The SSP added that the police have been investigating to know from where they have bought the weapons. At least 35 cases of murder, loot, dacoity, attempt to murder and kidnapping have been registered against the gang members at various police stations in Punjab.
