NEW DELHI – Asserting that the Congress is the only party which could give Punjab a stable government, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who joined the Congress on Monday, said voting for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would be a mistake and would mean promoting the Akali goons.

“The Akali government has led to many governance issues in Punjab, while the BJP has only become a puppet in the state with no voice,” she said.

Targeting the AAP for their lack of leadership in Punjab, Sidhu said she promoted the AAP in pursuit of an ideal platform where intellectual and honest people would come together for the betterment of Punjab. However, it turned out to be the East India Company which wanted to govern Punjab while sitting in Delhi, she added.

“Where is the AAP leadership in Punjab? Who is their CM candidate? Everything is decided in Delhi, including the decision on ticket allocation. In fact, they have been selling tickets. Who will save Punjab in such a situation? New faces, possibly commoners who have no knowledge of the Constitution, have been chosen. Is it so simple to run a government that inexperienced and corrupt people will be elected?” Sidhu asked.

The former BJP MLA from Amritsar (East) alleged that the AAP had been making false promises and fooling the people of Punjab even before the elections.

“They will curb the drug menace in Punjab within 25 days while their government has failed to curb the drug menace in the capital,” Sidhu concluded.

Navjot Kaur resigned from the BJP in October, less than a month after her husband, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, quit the BJP calling it a dictatorship.

Sidhu recently launched a forum, Awaaz-e-Punjab, wherein he asked like-minded people who wanted to work for Punjab’s interests to come together to defeat the forces which had ruined the state.

Elections to the Punjab Assembly will be held early next year.
