MUMBAI – Bollywood-Hollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra produced regional language film, her first Punjabi production Sarvann flopped in India and around the world with poor box office numbers.

The Lohri released fared poorly at the box office as it collected 1.45 crore NET (1.65 crore GROSS) over the first weekend in Punjab and across India last weekend. The film further crashed to 18 lakhs net last Monday and then petered out during the week.

The failure of the film also hit Punjabi film star Arminder Gill and writer Amberdeep Singh, both of whom had a blockbuster Angrez and Hit Love Punjab behind them but Sarvann, a gangster paying for his sins story, failed from the first show as the audience just did not show up.

Normally big Punjabi films don’t release in January as the market is weak but its about the content that it has fared so badly and not the release date as the reviews of the film harsh and unforgiving.

The lifetime business of Sarvann will be around 2.50 crore NET (2.85 crore GROSS) at best in India and it has also fared poorly overseas where Amarinder Gill has a strong market but box office figures were low in Australia, UK with New Zealand being average.

Canada, which is now the single biggest territory for hit Punjabi films, and the US also delivered low figures for Sarvann.

The results were better in South India where the two big Telugu films did very well and the Tamil film was also okay. The Telugu film Khaidi No.150 took a phenomenal opening at 41.75 crore GROSS which was the eighth highest ever in India including all films and the third highest ever for a film from the South. The five day weekend closed at 77 crore GROSS which is a huge number for a South Indian film. The film scored in Karnataka as well as Nizam / Andhra

The other Telugu release Gautamputra Satakarni also fared well as it grossed 16 crore crore GROSS on day one and had a four day weekend of 38 crore GROSS

The Tamil film Bhairavaa was an average fare as it grossed 11 crore GROSS on day one and 30 crore GROSS over four days.
