SOUTH VANCOUVER – Vancouver police has identified Maninder Singh Braich as the victim of city’s third homicide of 2017 after he was found injured but died shortly after being found inside a home on Prince Albert Street last Thursday.

Thirty-eight-year-old Braich may have died from injuries suffered from an altercation at a drinking party at the house where he was found dead, sources said.

VPD said just after midnight on February 9th, police responded to a report of an injured man at a home near Prince Albert Street and East 49th Avenue. Braich was rushed to hospital, and died a short time later.

No arrests have been made yet, but based on the investigation so far, detectives do not believe the public are at risk.

While Vancouver police are investigating, sources said the person, who is not yet identified but may be of South Asian descent, was well known in the neighbourhood.

“A group of friends always gathered at the house and drank and party but it seems on this occasion – one person became too drunk and got into a fight and one of them died,” a reliable source in the neighbourhood told our photographer.

“These guys would make a lot of noise when they were drunk and would sit in park around 49th Avenue and Chester Street area,” he said.

A large area around the home was cordoned off as police investigated, and several cruisers could be seen on the road and neighbouring alley.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have information about Maninder Braich’s activities on Wednesday, February 8th.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
