NEW DELHI – Welcoming the support of the Shromani Akali Dal (Master Tara Singh), DSGMC president and SAD Delhi unit chief Manjit Singh GK asked party candidates to refrain from drum beating and dancing during campaigning, which will end on February 24.

He said since it was an election for a religious body, one should remain sober.

He said even after the election results are announced and “we emerge victorious”, the candidates should not celebrate in such a manner. They should just go to gurdwaras for thanksgiving.

Warning party candidates against the use of liquor to influence voters, Manjit Singh alleged that the opposition parties were distributing liquor among the electorates.

An official of the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections, Delhi Government, Vikas Ahlawat, said so far they had not received any such complaint.

He said the MCD and the Delhi Police were vigilant to prevent the candidates from violating the law.

He said the Delhi Police had registered an FIR against SAD (Delhi) president Paramjit Singh Sarna for pasting posters on walls and other prohibited places.
