ESL Book Clubs at Surrey Libraries
“The ESL Book Clubs help us improve our English, learn about Canada, and make new friends from all over the world,” say participants of Surrey Libraries’ ESL book clubs. Book clubs are free, fun, and friendly. If you would like to practice your English and make new friends, join Surrey Libraries’ ESL Book Clubs. Come practice reading, speaking, and listening in English. Readers are welcome at any level from beginners to advanced. Library books will be provided (Levels 1-4). Call or visit the libraries to register.

International Women’s Day
India Mahila Association (IMA) is inviting all women to come and celebrate International Women’s Day at Fraserview Hall on March 5, 2017. Come join in the fun and make this a day to remember. There will be dinner, entertainment, lots of singing and dancing. Doors will be opening at 3:00 PM with the formal part of the event starting at 4:00 PM sharp. Cost is $20 (or $25 at the door). National Pancake Day
IHOP’s world-famous freshly-made pancake serves a much bigger purpose this year, as IHOP’s signature day of giving and pop-culture phenomenon, National Pancake Day, returns on March 7. Guests will receive a free short stack of the brand’s world-famous, Buttermilk pancakes at participating restaurants and in return are asked to leave a donation to benefit the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in your community. To date, IHOP has raised $24 million for local hospitals and has set a goal to raise $3.5 million this year !
Film Screening: “Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai”

In September, 2013, the Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts of Uttar Pradesh experienced some of the worst anti-Muslim communal massacres since 1947. In this 2015 documentary (which the Indian Censor Board refused to certify), director Nakul Singh Sawhney looks at how the Muslim pogroms tied into the BJP and Modi election campaign of 2013. Taken together, Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai shows how the politics of Hindu nationalism are being reconstituted in a new India.
Indian Classical Concert
Indian classical and thumri concert featuring Smt Indrani Mukherjee will be held Saturday, April 1 at Burnaby Hall. This will be an Indian Classical Music and Thumri concert by Smt. Indrani Mukherjee, accompanied by Pandit Ramesh Misra on Sarangi and Sri Apurba Mukherjee on Tabla.
