This March, Surrey residents have a unique chance to work together to give back to local charities something that will likely be embraced given that 77 per cent of British Columbians are givers, according to a recent national poll.

For those of us who have waited in a drive-thru line only to find out the car ahead already paid for our coffee, we are familiar with the idea of paying it forward within our community. Local No Frills locations are taking this one step further, giving shoppers the opportunity to “save it forward” by extending their grocery dollars with unique coupons for savings on everyday products and, for no additional cost, support local charities at the same time.

Recent research conducted by the teams at No Frills revealed that giving back to your community is priority number one for British Columbians. In fact, 55 per cent of those who prefer to give, choose to support the local programs in their community.

“Save It Forward is a great example of our store’s dedication to support local community organizations,” said Glenn Scott, a local No Frills Store Owner. “Throughout the year we support a variety of local initiatives and through Save It Forward, we are helping our customers stretch their food dollars even further. The unique program provides coupons for shoppers with two distinct parts. One part provides savings on select grocery items and the other part provides customers with the ability to donate to one of three local charities. At our store, customers can choose between the President’s Choice Children’s Charity, the Surrey Food Bank or the BC Cancer Foundation.”

Save It Forward was born out of FEED EVERYONE, No Frills’ value proposition to offer families lower prices on food and essentials for the home.

“Through the donations collected via the Save It Forward and ongoing community support, President’s Choice Children’s Charity can continue to fund breakfast and snack programs in communities across the country,” said Leila Fenc of President’s Choice Children’s Charity. “Nutrition is a key component for childhood learning. Our breakfast and snack programs help students reach their full potential.”

Surrey residents are encouraged to take advantage of these savings and also give back locally by visiting your local No Frills to take advantage of the “Save it Forward effect” by saving on your grocery bill and supporting local community organizations. The program runs until the end of the week at No Frills locations.
