SANGRUR – Accusing landlords of molesting Dalit women during protest to get their share of village common land and alleging registration of false cases against them, the Istri Jagriti Manch today formed a special committee to prepare a detailed report of all such cases, where the police refused to register FIR of molestation after receiving written complaints.

The committee will prepare the report in 20 days and submit to the state government for legal action.

Addressing media-persons, the committee members announced to intensify their agitation if the authorities fail to act over their report.

They said the police had registered false cases against 150 to 200 Dalit women of various villages of the district, including Jhaloor, Balad, Kulara, Beena Heri, Bhado and others. They alleged that these women had gone to protest for their right to get their share of land from the village common land, but the police registered false cases against them under attempt to murder and other charges.

“Influential landlords molest Dalit women as they are supporting their families in their struggle to get their share of land on lease. In Jhaloor clash in November, we received a complaint that some landlords tried to rape a Dalit woman,” alleged state vice-president of the manch Charnjit Kaur.

Another member of the committee Amandeep Kaur Deol alleged that they had all evidence to prove that the police were helping landlords and harassing Dalit women by registering false cases against them.
