Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition, was joined by members of the Conservative Caucus and the Sikh community to mark Vaisakhi on April 11th. Ambrose gathered in the spirit of unity with many different community leaders to celebrate and commemorate the founding of Khalsa, the Sikh community, established in 1699 by their 10th Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In celebration of the spring harvest, Ambrose joined community leaders in traditional celebrations such as enjoying festive foods and looks forward to taking part in the upcoming nagar kirtan. Ambrose stressed the importance of the communities close ties and thanked individual groups for their generosity and immense contributions to Canada’s prosperity.

The Sikh community takes pride in being compassionate, generous, and are strong advocates of Seva, which relates to selfless service and volunteering for the less unfortunate,” Ambrose said in her remarks. Dianne Watts, Member of Parliament for Surrey – White rock, was delighted to see the strong display of the vibrant south Asian community.  “The Sikh people have long contributed to the success and prosperity of Canada, and it is because of celebrations like this Canadian unity knows no bounds.  Conservatives will continue to value and promote this vibrant community” Watts said.
