VICTORIA – Elections BC estimates that voter turnout for the 2017 Provincial General Election was approximately 60 per cent.
This estimate is based on:
- the number of voters registered as of the close of general voter registration on April 11 adjusted for expected rates of registration during voting,
- the number of valid votes and rejected ballots cast at advance and general voting, and
- the preliminary estimate of absentee ballots in certification envelopes cast during the election.
A more accurate estimate of voter turnout will be released after the conclusion of final count, which will take place between May 22 and May 24. Absentee ballots are counted at final count.
Final voter turnout figures for the 2017 Provincial General Election will be available after the number of registered voters and the estimated number of eligible voters as of May 9 are known.
The number of registered voters on May 9 will be available after Elections BC has processed all voter registration transactions that occurred during the election period. Typically this figure is available in late August after a general election. The estimated number of eligible voters on General Voting Day will also be available in late August.
