Khalsa Credit Union Honours Community Leaders And Students With Scholarships And Awards

KCU Also Donates $30,000 To Manmeet Singh Bhullar Foundation!

SURREY – At a glittering gala celebration held at the Crown Palace Banquet Hall on August 29, the Board, Management and Staff of KCU paid tribute to youth, business owners and inspirational leaders who have made a difference in their communities. Interspersed with fusion music combining the influence of Eastern and Western culture, the lively and well-attended event included high quality door prizes and featured speaker Professor Harkirat Singh, a school trustee from Brampton Ontario.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque for $30,000 from KCU to the Manmeet Singh Bhullar Foundation following an emotional speech from Bajinder Singh Bhullar on the plight of Sikhs in Afghanistan. Another highlight was the presentation of thirty scholarships and bursaries, for $45,000 in total, to deserving students in the following categories: Academic; Religious; Sports; High School Bursaries; University Bursaries.

For the second consecutive year the credit union recognized the pillars of Business/Community through the presentation of the Community Service Awards. Winners were as follows:

Citizen of the Year – Jag Singh Khosa Business Excellence – Papa Plumbing & Heating Ltd.

Religious Commitment – Prem Singh Gill Sports Achievement – Buneet Singh Bisla

“We were delighted to be able to sponsor an event of this magnitude”, said Board Chair Jaswinder Singh Gill. “It is gratifying to realize the part that KCU plays in support of education, culture, business and the betterment of our communities”.
