“I’m so looking forward to coming to Vancouver after such a long break,” Sammy told the LINK in an telephone interview Thursday morning, who will be playing Surrey and Vancouver next Friday (Oct. 13) and Saturday (Oct. 14). “My fans have been sending me messages and asking when I’ll be coming and now the wait is over and it’s gonna be a lot of fun. I’ve got a lot of new material from my experiences over the last few years where I’ve been busy doing a TV show in Quebec and travelling and doing shows in France, which is a great experience in itself. But I’ll be back to BC more often now that my schedule is more flexible.”

SURREY – It’s been 7 long years for popular Indo-Canadian comedian Sugar Sammy, who is hosting this year’s JFL Comedy Tour, which hits 12 cities across Canada from Oct 13-28, since he’s come to the Westcoast and he is hyped.

Not that he’s short of material these days, but a new Turbaned Sikh-Canadian leader for the NDP in Canada and the US political farce that is Doofus-In-Chief Donald Trump along with his own unique brand of social pop-culture humour, Sammy says he’s got a treat for his fans. And he will also be mining the Relationship humour with a brand new Polish-Canadian girlfriend.

“Life has changed so much and now I’ve got a girlfriend and she is not Indian and there’s so much going on in the world so there is a lot of material and I can’t wait to share it with my fans out in BC. I’m really looking forward to it and so are my fellow comics Alonzo and Gina.”

Sammy’s been blessed with so much success in the past few years, it’s crazy. He hosted two sold out galas at the JFL Festival in Montreal this summer and did a 40-show tour of the US. Last summer he did the big outdoor show at JFL, with over 115,000 people in attendance.

He created a bilingual comedy show, arguably the first, and played a total of 421 sold-out performances, and sold 372,000 tickets over 4 years.

He had a successful TV show on French TV for 3 years and he has conquered France, performing 78 sold out shows over 9 months.

After the Canadian tour he returns to Paris for another 25 shows.

While Sammy, who is fluent in English, French, Punjabi and Hindi, and the veteran Canadian comic Russell Peters have been the two “Brown” comic pioneers in Canada, now a whole horde of “Brown” comedians have risen to the top in North America.

People like Vir Das from India, Aziz Ansari and a number of others from US and Canada who are staking their own place in the big bad world of stand-up comedy.

Asked if he would be open to a BROWN KINGS AND QUEENS OF COMEDY world tour and Sammy is quick to say a big YES!

“That would be incredible and a great comedy event. You put it out there in the world and tell them that Sugar Sammy is in and you never know someone, somewhere out there just might get the ball rolling and put the tour together,” Sammy says with his trade-mark jest.

Well that would be an awesome tour and if it happens – hopefully the tour invites this writer to cover it and perhaps make a DOCUMENTARY. Let the Dream Begin!

Sugar Sammy is hosting and performing the JFL Comedy Tour with:

Alonzo Bodden – whip smart, won Season 3 of Last Comic Standing, can talk about politics, cars, NBA, NFL and Trevor Noah called him “One of the funniest people you’ll see on stage.”

Gina Brillon – an actress and comedian, Bronx-born Gina has also been published in the New York Post and Daily News. She is in the Kevin James sitcom “Kevin Can Wait”.

The tour plays Surrey on Oct 13 and Vancouver on Oct. 14. Also, Victoria on Oct 15 & Kelowna on Oct. 16.
