250 Years of Heer was celebrated with an intimate evening of food, wine, and music at Surrey City Hall. The event featured performances by Madan Gopal Singh and Chaar Yaar who flew in from India for the evening. The eclectic program featured a mixed-media arts exhibition by the “dontdoze art collective”, who took the Heer Ranjha story and reinterpreted themes of love and relationships—and even provided a display of “poison” laddoos that were quickly devoured by an enthusiastic audience.

The evening began with an academic discussion between Dr. Anne Murphy and Madan Gopal Singh, who explored the cultural and spiritual significance of Heer on Punjabi expression. The night continued and closed with a riveting concert performance by Chaar Yaar.
