The 2018 contest, like the ones in the past, is open to all agesabove 5 years: 5-12 yrs., 13-17 yrs., 18-64 yrs., and 65 yrs. or more. The entries to the contest in the literary arts category can be in prose or poetry up to 400 words for 5-12 years old and up to 2,000 words for the others. The entries in the visual arts category can take the form of drawings, paintings, photography, or sculpting. Every entry to the contest must have a theme of peace, such as loving kindness, caring for the needs of others, sharing what is available in a more equitable manner, forgiving & forgetting, acting responsibly in a trustworthy manner, friendship, multiculturalism, social justice, nuclear disarmament, conflict transformation, and the like.

The entries to the contest can be emailed, mailed, or hand-delivered to GPA office to receive by August 1st. Every entry must accompany a cover letter giving the following information:

  • Participant’s name, birthday, physical address, phone number & email address, and
  • Participant’s own description of the peace message behind his or her artwork.

The participants to the contest will be ceremoniously recognized at the culminating ART4PEACE Festival with certificates for all of them and cash prizes & trophies for the winners in each art category in each age group. The time and venue of the festival will be announced at a later time. The selection of the contest winners by GPA will be considered as final.

The Children’s submissions to this contest (age groups 5-12 years and 13-17 years) will be used to develop and annually expand a Dictionary of Peace for the Children by the Children (leading to a language of peace for the young) while the adults’ submissions to the contest get added on to a similarly expanding database ofpeacemaking and conflict transformation ideas and concepts for adults by adults. Both the dictionary and the date base will be made available to the general public.

We are proud to live in a country such as Canada where our peaceful communities can show the world that change can occur from tension, fear, and uncertainty to relief, resilience and durable peace without dependence on any form of violence.

  • May everyone care for the needs of others and share what is available in a more equitable manner!
  • May no one take vengeance for past wrongs of others!
  • May everyone always act responsibly in a trustworthy and reliable manner!
  • May everyone appreciate the wellbeing and happiness of all humans, just as one’s own – irrespective of any identifiable difference!
