RICHMOND – An Indo-Canadian man who murdered his estranged son and mother-in-law by setting their house on fire has been found guilty of manslaughter.

On April 13, 2015 at 2:10 a.m., the Richmond RCMP received a call of a fire at a home in the 10100-block of Cornerbrook Crescent.  First responders found 66-year-old and 13-year-old boy at the residence and both died as a result of their injuries.   The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in to investigate.

The 37-year-old son-in-law Surjit Dosanjh, was arrested and charged in connection with the two deaths.

In January of 2018, the trial of Dosanjh began in B.C. Supreme Court.

Dosanjh was found guilty of two counts of manslaughter last week.

“This was a tragic case and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Ms. Leznoff and Kalvin Dosanjh-Leznoff,” says Corporal Frank Jang of IHIT.  “IHIT is very grateful for the significant contributions made by its partners from the Richmond RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the Richmond Fire Department.”

Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.
