Dear Editor:

Kudos to you for running the front-page story (January 12, 2019) based on the recent study by the Refugee Claims and Analysis Report of the Canadian Government, listing very clearly the main reasons of migration from India to Canada.

Specifics are the following “push factors” stated by the agency for immigration to Canada:

Organised human smuggling, overpopulation, environmental degradation, meaning dangerous levels of air pollution, extensive poverty, discrimination, widespread corruption, poor infrastructure, drought, increasing religious tensions, meaning attacks on religious minorities, violence against women and girls, meaning sexual attacks, honour killings, lack of access to sanitation facilities, lack of access to health care, and discrimination against LGBTQ2 communities.

While it gives a vivid understanding of reasons why heavy migration to Canada is taking place from India in recent years, the report also reveals the state of affairs of the nation where the present ruling party is painting a very rosy picture of “achche din” (good days) of the country.

The socio-economic, political, environmental and religious degradation of India are the challenging realities of the present-day India, which rather than being covered, must be accepted and need immediate tackling.
