Subject: Public Safety Report – “Sikh extremism”

Greetings:

It is baffling for many of us to comprehend as to how reference to Canadian Sikhs as “extremists” found its way into Minister Ralph Goodale recent report of public safety in Canada. Fortunately, this most unfortunate reference and en masse labeling of a community has since been removed, but only after months of sustained and strenuous efforts to do so.

It would be hard to believe that you, as a senior Sikh minister in cabinet, were either sidelined, unaware and not consulted on this matter. There are also allegations that PM Justin Trudeau’s visit to India provided an ideal opportunity for the Indian government to ensure that this reference be included in any such report, in its persistent efforts to discredit Sikhs living anywhere.

May I suggest and invite you to provide some clarification on this unfortunate development and of deep concern for Canadian Sikhs, at your earliest convenience.

With very best wishers and continued success.
