The opportunity to play on the same turf as Professional Football Athletes would be a dream come true for any child and respected cop Kal Dosanjh fronted KidsPlay Foundation is making it happen by keeping kids on the field and out of gangs. KidsPlay and B.C. Lions Football Club teamed up for an Annual Flag Football Tournament for kids. This opportunity introduces youth to a sport that helps build character with a growth mindset, along with becoming a positive outlet that can keep them away from drugs, gangs, and violence, a fundamental pillar of the Kids Play Foundation philosophy.

“The BC Lions Football Club is proud to support the Kids Play Foundation in their efforts to help kids make positive choices and avoid the pitfalls of drugs, gangs and violence. The power of sport is transformative instilling qualities like leadership, teamwork and confidence. These are life skills that everyone can benefit from,” said Jamie Taras, BC Lions Football Club, Director of Community Partnerships.

The sport itself is a remarkable way to channel energy as said by BC Lions Offensive Linesman, Andrew Peirson, who came out to interact with the youth, and share his stories. Other than meeting a Football Player, the kids got to do fun drills, and play Flag football with their peers, that in itself gave them the chance to make new relationships and learn new skills.

“The goal of our programs is to build a long lasting relationship with youth starting at a young age so that a sense of community, safety and integrity become well entrenched values,” says Kal Dosanjh, Founder of Kids Play. “Developing these relationships early are critical to steering youth to make positive life choices.  Sports, and this event in particular, is a fantastic way to build that bridge. Today’s event provides a sense of community, a great opportunity to build friendships, and the ability participate in a unique experience for children who may not otherwise get the chance.”
