MALDA – A youth from north Bengal, who lost both his legs in a train accident on Sunday night, was made to lie down on a bed at the Malda district hospital with his severed limbs tucked under his head to serve as pillow.

Soren Tudu (26) of Bansihari in South Dinajpur district had arrived at Malda town station on Sunday night to board a Guwahati-bound train. The son of an impoverished farmer Mangal Tudu, Soren wanted to try his luck in the neighbouring state as there was no work in his village. While attempting to board a train, he missed the step, lost his hold on the hand rail and fell.

The train’s wheels ran over his legs, severing the limbs. After the train had passed, the railway police found the unconscious man on the track with the severed legs lying at a distance. He and his detached limbs were then taken to the district hospital, where he was admitted.

Reports said when other patients woke up on Monday, they saw a man lying on an adjoining bed with his head resting on two legs! Some of them called the hospital staff and demanded that something be done immediately

One of the patients said, “I saw the ward boys take him to the bed. Instead of placing a pillow under his head, they put the severed limbs. The patient was in agonizing pain and hardly realized the barbaric act.”
