JAMSHEDPUR – A 10-year-old girl of Chandil block in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district was allegedly gang-raped by her relatives at Birgram village in Purulia.
The victim, a resident of Bhalukocha village, had gone to her aunt’s place in Birgram, to attend a marriage function. On the evening of May 30, five of her relatives gang-raped her while she was returning after relieving herself in the open fields.
Apparently, the victim’s parents fearing social stigma, didn’t lodge a complaint with the police but on Tuesday when the victim’s situation worsened, she was brought to the Tata Main Hospital for treatment. Following this, the hospital authorities informed the local police station about the case.
“A complaint case will be lodged with the (Bistupur) police and it will be intimated to the Baghmundi police station for further action and arrest of the culprits,” said SP (city) Karthik S on Wednesday.
The victim’s family members refrained from speaking much on the issue.
