WASHINGTON – The 2008Mumbai terror attack by theLeT was aimed to “dramatically”change the future of SouthAsia and perhaps provoke a warbetween nuclear-armed Indiaand Pakistan, a top US counterterrorismexpert has said.“Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) hadcarefully chosen the targets andmeticulously researched themover several years. Theyreceived considerable assistancein doing so from two sources,the Pakistani intelligence service,called the Inter-ServicesIntelligence Directorate or ISIand al-Qaeda,” Bruce Riedel,director the Intelligence Projectat the Brookings Institute,wrote in an article in anAmerican daily. “The attackwas intended to change dramaticallythe future of South Asia,perhaps even by provoking awar between the two nuclearpowers rising in the subcontinent,”Riedel wrote.
