Nirmal Bains, an active senior, was out for his morning walk but he didn’t return and police found his body on his Huntingdon Road property on Saturday.

ABBOTSFORD – An eighty-year-old Indo-Canadian man from the Fraser Valley was found dead found on his rural Abbotsford property on Saturday and now the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating it as murder.

Nirmal Bains, an active senior, was out for his morning walk but he didn’t return.

His family started searching for him and his wife located him in an outbuilding on their property in the 31700 block of Huntingdon Road east of Townline Road around 10:30 a.m, reported Abbotsford Times.

The death appeared suspicious and Abbotsford major crime and forensic identification officers were called in.

However, more investigation was required in order to confirm or rule out foul play, said IHIT Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

An autopsy was completed on Monday and it has been determined that Bains suffered injuries consistent with a homicide, said Pound.

“It is a true tragedy to see a dedicated family man live a full life into his 80s only to have his life so brutally taken from him,” she said.

IHIT investigators with the APD’s help will continue to diligently investigate, said Pound.
