SUVA – Junior Farzan Ali has earned a world title shot following his win over Philippines Allan Jay over the weekend.

The local welterweight champion defeated Jay on unanimous point decision to win the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific Lightweight title.

From the opening bell, Jay started dishing heavy punches at Ali and kept his opponent at bay almost throughout the first round.

Ali kept his cool and managed to get some decent punches on Jay’s face that resulted in the Australia-based boxer’s bloody nose in the eight round.

With the motivation from the crowd, Ali picked up the momentum unleashing some more powerful punches but Jay kept his guard well and managed to evade those deadly blows.

Both boxers showed glimpses of world class boxing and kept the fans entertained until the end of the 12th round.

“It was a nice fight and he (Jay) proved a good fighter. He tried his best and I gave my best as well so thank God I got the belt for my country,” Ali said.

“He wanted to finish me early and I knew he was going to come out firing so I was ready with all the reply.”
