Every day it is becoming clearer that thewestern countries are trying to maintaintheir domination and hegemony at anycost. For this purpose, they are willing topush as many countries to the brink ofdisaster and shed the blood of as manyinnocent people as it takes. The bittertruth is that the western countries whoclaim to be champions of human rightsand human values and protectors of lawand order, are in reality only concernedabout their profit and want to maintaintheir monopoly on the resources of theworld. They also want to continueexploitation of the poor and the developingcountries as well as of the weakersections of their own societies. The biggest truth is that the western-dominated world order of the lasttwo centuries is based upon inequalityand injustice. A fundamental fact is thatjustice, equality, human rights, humanvalues and human welfare all are basedupon ethics. Man has learned over thousandsof years that ethics should be putabove economics. However, in the lasttwo centuries, western capitalists haveturned this concept upside down. Eventhough exploitation of man by man andoppression of man by man have beenthere for a long time, yet western capitalistshave tried to give them a new acceptabilityand respectability by using termssuch as profit or growth of economy. They have also tried to pass theirexploitation, oppression, and barbarity asa struggle for human rights and freedom. This phenomenon can be called theheight of hypocrisy and pretention. Tomaintain their domination and hegemony, they have sacrificed many countriesand pushed them toward chaos and anarchy. There is a long list of such countries, including Somalia, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. Now Ukraine is being pushed in thatdirection.Ukraine is the largest country byarea which is entirely in Europe. Russia isthe biggest country in the world. However, the Ural mountains passthrough Russia, dividing it intoEuropean and Asian parts. Ukraine hasvery fertile land and it is among the topten countries of the world which areleading in agriculture, and is the thirdlargest exporter of grains. Ukraine has apopulation of 46 million which isdecreasing by about 150,000 every year. After Russia, Ukraine has the secondlargest army in Europe (780,000).Ukraine is called the “Bread basket ofEurope.”From a historical, political, andeconomic point of view, Ukraine hasbeen very close to Russia. The westerncountries want to pull Ukraine towardthem and away from Russia. First, theyincited an Orange Revolution in Ukraineand established a pro-western government. However, this government did notlast long and collapsed. The present governmentis leaning toward Russia. However, the western countries are usingtheir lackeys in Ukraine to propagate theidea that the future of Ukraine lies withwestern Europe. Therefore, it shouldbecome a member of the EuropeanUnion and NATO. Russia has helpedUkraine provide economically in a verybig way. Russia gives Ukraine oil and gasat a very cheap rate. The western countrieshad put tremendous economic pressureon Ukraine to wean it away fromRussia. Russia gave about 15 billion dollarsin economic assistance. The westerncountries want to push Ukraine to chaosand anarchy so that the present governmentcannot function and they canreplace it with a pro-western government. The Prime Minister and his cabinethave just announced their resignation.Prime Minister Mykola Azarov wasconsidered the biggest proponent ofPresident Viktor Yanukovych. He saidthat he resigned so that the present crisiscan be resolved and open the way fornational reconciliation, and Ukraine canbe saved from violence and bloodshed. The laws passed against demonstratorshave been withdrawn and amnesty forlawbreakers (during demonstrations). However, the demonstrators show nosign of withdrawing their struggle. It isobvious that they do not want peace andharmony in Ukraine. They want to furtherincite chaos and anarchy and a civilwar. Such people cannot be called patriots. They are acting more like westernagents. Eventually, they want to establisha puppet government in Ukraine. Atpresent, they seem to be pushing Ukrainetoward a civil war. They feel that theirwestern masters can help them win sucha war. However, Russia cannot afford to have ahostile government on its borders.Eventually, Russia may intervene just likeit did in Georgia. Russia can intervenemilitarily and tilt the balance of power. Itis extremely unlikely that western countriescan intervene militarily. The westerncountries may propose a division ofUkraine, the western part going to theEU and NATO, and the eastern part joiningthe Russian-led economic union ofthe former members of the SovietUnion. Russia is unlikely to accept thedivision and wants to preserve the sovereigntyand unity of Ukraine. The westerncountries, from the very beginning, havefollowed a policy of “Divide and Rule.”Indians, particularly Punjabis, have sufferedtremendously by the westernimposeddivision of India. The West continuedits divisive policy in the SovietUnion, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Iraq,Vietnam, Korea, and Sudan. The West isnow engaged in trying to divide Syria,Libya, Somalia, Nigeria, and Sri Lanka. Itseems that it has added Ukraine to thislist. The western urge to divide and ruleactually comes from the lower centers ofman, whereas the message of unitycomes from higher centers. The so-calledwestern civilization is in reality the reversalof human evolution, which went fromlower centers to higher centers. Westernconsumer culture appeals to lower centersby inciting greed, selfishness, possessiveness, arrogance, hatred and revenge.By inciting these, it degrades humanbeings to mere consumers who help toexpand western markets. The Westshould be stopped from doing thisbecause its greed will not only destroy therest of the world, but also destroy thewestern countries themselves.Dr. Sawraj Singh, MD F.I.C.S. is theChairman of the Washington State Networkfor Human Rights and Chairman of theCentral Washington Coalition for Social Justice. He can be reached at [email protected]. However, if a civil war breaks outin Ukraine, they may have a rude awakeningand victory may prove elusive. The pro-western forces are strongin the western part of the country. However, in the eastern part, the majorityof people are leaning toward Russia.17% of the population of Ukraine is ofRussian descent. Therefore, about half ofthe population is leaning toward the Westand the other half is leaning towardRussia. The proximity of Russia toUkraine is a big factor in determining theultimate outcome. So far, Russia hasshown extreme patience and resisted allprovocations when western countries areopenly siding with anti-governmentforces. However, Russia cannot afford tohave a hostile government on its borders.
