Akal Academy’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Held

SURREY – Akal Academy Surrey celebrated its annual volunteer appreciation dinner at Grand Taj Banquet Hall on Saturday, Nov 29th. It was a well attended event with over 100 volunteers at the gathering.

Besides word of appreciation, many speakers shared their experiences and unanimously extended their continuous support to the local chapter of Akal Academy.

Rina Kaur Spoke about the good work that Akal Academy extends to the community by in various ways.  The Gurmat and Punjabi classes in pulling many students and they are gaining insight into their language, culture, Gurbani and kirtan. They also hold Gurmat camps during school holidays.

Akal Academy is committed towards a whole child development for children of the community. To further this, their latest venture is the introduction of tutoring services for Grade 3 to Grade 10 students. These services will be rendered under the guidance and expertise of BC Certified Public School teachers. Through tutoring services in the areas of science and math and language art, Akal Academy aims to train students for academic success via formative assessment which will be shared with the parents on a regular basis.  The classes have already begun and registration is ongoing. For students interested in Punjabi Grade 11 & 12 challenge exams, Akal Academy is running prep classes for students now  through December to prepare them for their exams in January.

The evening came to an end with Gulzar Singh Villing and Avtar Singh Gill thanking all the volunteers for their hard work and services.
