AMRITSAR – Nearly a month after an Assistant Sub-Inspector, who was trying to protect his daughter from harassment, was allegedly shot dead by a SAD leader in Amritsar, an SHO and his team came under attack from a son of Akali leader in Fatehgarh Sahib district on Monday night.

The accused has been identified as Jagdish Singh, son of senior SAD leader Makhan Singh Lalka, who is in charge of party affairs in the Nabha constituency.

According to the police, Jagdish was travelling in a Verna car with a red beacon atop. He was accompanied by a woman Kamalpreet Kaur and driver Rattan Lal Ratti.

SHO Harvinder Singh and his team had laid a naka at Amloh for routine checking of vehicles coming from the Khanna side. Jagdish’s car was stopped at the naka at 9.30 pm. As soon as the car stopped, the driver started hurling abuses at the policemen. When the policemen started checking the car, Jagdish Singh and Kamalpreet, who were both allegedly in an inebriated condition started thrashing them. When the SHO tried to intervene, the accused also roughed him up, said the police.

The trio was overpowered and taken to a police station and later a medical examination was conducted on them.
