Another NRI Money Lender Gunned Down In Philippines

JALANDHAR – Four months after the attack on Jaswant Singh in the Philippines, who is in coma there ever since, his 23-year-old son Jasmeet Singh was gunned down by armed assailants last night.

The deceased’s family resides at the Daulatpuri locality in Jalandhar, Punjab. Jaswant had settled in Manila 15 years ago. He was into the money lending business there. Jasmeet’s uncle Harbhajan Singh said Jasmeet had been pursuing a degree in hotel management from an institute near Manila.

“Four months ago, my brother Jaswant was attacked by some unidentified persons there. He went into a coma and is undergoing treatment in a hospital there. During the attack on his father, Jasmeet was in the US on a study tour. After his return, he had taken over the business,” Harbhajan said.

He said that around 10.30 pm last night, his nephew along with his friend James was roaming in the market when five armed assailants fired on them. The duo reportedly died on the spot.

Pardeep Kaur, Jasmeet’s mother, said, “I urge the state government to take up the matter with the Home Ministry so that the body of my son can be brought to India. My comatose husband should also be brought to India. We have no money. I hope the government will help us.”
