NEW DELHI – The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has installed a huge statue of 18th-century Sikh ruler Baba Banda Singh Bahadur near the Mandi House metro station here. He had defeated the Mughal forces at Sirhind in 1710 and established the Sikh rule.

The statue’s face is covered as it awaits a formal inauguration by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The statue stands perched atop a pedestal within Nabha House, a Punjab Government property on Sikandra Road.

The statue will be unveiled before the election code of conduct is enforced in election-bound Punjab.

The statue, which was gifted by CM Parkash Singh Badal, was to be installed in DDA Park at Mehrauli in June on the occasion of 300 years of the martyrdom day function of Baba Banda Bahadur. The Delhi government did not give permission, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said.
