SURREY – A bizarre caseinvolving a stabbing and carjackingfeaturing what policeinitially described as an Indo-Canadian-South Asian coupleturned out to be a couple of adifferent description when thepolice released a surveillancephoto of the suspected coupleinvolved in a number of incidentsWednesday night in theSurrey-Whalley area along KingGeorge Boulevard. The Esso station at KingGeorge Boulevard and 104Avenue was the scene of a suspectedcarjacking, and may beconnected to a seemingly randomstabbing that occurredearlier in the night, whichinvolved the said couple above.According to the driver of thealleged carjacking, the coupleasked him to hand over thekeys, only to have it stolen byothers as the driver tried to getinto his vehicle. The driver claimed an Indo-Canadian man and womanapproached him and the manthreatened him with a machetetypeweapon, telling the driverto hand over the keys to hisvan. As the man started to get intothe vehicle, two other mendescribed as white males intheir mid-20s approached him, sparking a physical altercation.According to police, one of themen then took off in the vehicle,a blue 2003 Dodge Caravanwith licence plate 823 RWF.“Until such a time when we cantalk to all four suspectsinvolved, we have to assumethis was a case of carjackersbeing carjacked,” Cpl. BertPaquet told CTV News. “Wecertainly have no indication thatthere was a connection betweenthe first thief and the other twomales that arrived at the sceneafter he robbed a man of hisvehicle.”The suspects then fled thescene, police said. About 10 minutes later, and only a few blocksaway, the Surrey Fire Department was called tothe Front Room Drop-In Centre at 10667 135ASt. on a medical call.On arrival, they found a man who had beenstabbed in the upper left chest. He was taken tohospital by ambulance with non-life threateninginjuries. The 37-year-old Surrey resident said hehad been walking on King George Boulevard near106 Avenue when he was approached by a womanand a dark-skinned man. An argument ensued. The dark-skinned man produced what the victimdescribed as a small sword and began waving itaround. The two groups walked away from eachother, but on his way to the Front Room, the victimrealized he had been stabbed. He is in hospital in stable condition. The victim said he did not know the male orfemale, and was not forthcoming on what the verbalaltercation was about.Police believe there is a good probability that thesame couple are responsible for both offences.Police have seized the video footage from theEsso station to get a better description of theattackers and subsequently released the photo of acouple suspected in the carjacking. Police are alsolooking for the blue 2003 Dodge Caravan withlicence plate 823 RWF.Surrey RCMP are requesting the public’s help inidentifying the individuals involved in these twoseparate incidents that occurred in the lateevening on December 11th. Our investigators have obtained apicture from a surveillance camera that we hopewill generate tips from the public and assist us inidentifying the couple.” The LINK wrote toSurrey RCMP constable Paquet to clarify whetherthe earlier described Indo-Canadian couple wasindeed not Indo-Canadian as the police did notclarify the identity when releasing the surveillancephoto which featured what seemed like aCaucasian couple. This is what we wrote: “Earlierin your releases and in the media, it described thecouple as Indo-Canadian or South Asian. The picturedcouple do not fit that description and youhave not made it clear. So are these the couple thatwere earlier described as Indo-Canadian or arethey a different couple? Please clarify as it is veryconfusing. We want to be accurate in our reporting.”We did not hear back from Surrey RCMP atpress time.Anyone with further information about either of these incidentsis asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous,at 1-800-222-TIPS.a
