SUVA – Ba businessman Rajesh Patel scored a landslide victory over his opposition Shailendra Prasad to become the new Fiji Football Association president last night.

Out of the 54 votes casted by Fiji FA delegates, 43 went to Patel, 10 to Prasad and one was deemed invalid. After Prasad’s loss, the other Wheels of Change candidates decided to withdraw their vice-presidents nominations.

Alongside Patel, Nadi soccer president Jitendra Kumar and Tarunesh Reddy of Lautoka were elected the new vice-presidents for West.

Yogeshwar Singh and Sheik Ibrahim were retained as the vice-presidents for South and North respectively. An elated Patel in a speech to the delegates said he was the change the soccer loving fans of Fiji had been asking for.

“I thank God and the support of the delegates and I’m sure that you have made the right choice,” he said. “Fiji FA has got a change and the change is that today (last night) Mr Rajesh Patel has been elected the new president.
