Chandigarh IPS Officer Charged With Corruption

CHANDIGARH – A CBI special court on Monday framed corruptioncharges against IPS officer and former Chandigarh policeSP Desraj Singh, who was arrested last year in October for acceptinga bribe of Rs 1 lakh.Singh, a 2008-batch IPS officer, was held athis official residence for accepting the bribe from his subordinateofficer, inspector Anokh Singh.CBI special judge Vimal Kumarframed charges against the IPS officer under sections 7 (public servanttaking gratification) and 13 (criminal misconduct by a publicservant) of the Anti Corruption Act 1988.According to the prosecution,Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from inspectorAnokh (currently posted as SHO of sector 26 police station), forgiving favourable report in five departmental inquiries initiatedagainst the latter for “showing indiscipline to senior officers.”
