Court Gives Thief A Break

SUVA – A man charged with 10 counts of theft has been handed a suspended sentence by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Nileshwar Sami, 25, was sentenced by Magistrate Yohan Liyanage who said the accused took advantage of his position as an accounts clerk by taking $2243.50 from the Motibhai Group Limited in Walu Bay on July 2, 2010.

In mitigation, Sami said he was a first offender, married and had every intention of paying back the money to the company.

Liyanage sentenced Sami to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for three years.

He also gave the accused 28 days to appeal.
