VANCOUVER – There’s been a cloud of controversy surrounding Surrey’s Council since Doug McCallum took the mayor’s seat, but it looks like the majority of people living there think he’s doing a good job.

At least, that’s what a recent poll from Research Co. suggests.

It says McCallum has a 50 per cent approval rating, but his administration has a higher ranking in a number of key categories than his predecessor.

For example, 68 per cent of those polled think Surrey is enhancing the quality of life. Previously it was around 36 per cent.

Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart’s approval rating sits at 52 per cent and Mike Hurley in Burnaby is at 51 per cent.

“There are some subtle differences between the three cities when it comes to public safety,” Research Co. President Mario Canseco says in a release. “While 60% of Burnaby residents endorse the performance of their administration, the proportion falls to 54% in Vancouver and 52% in Surrey.”
