Police have released name of the person who was shot to death in a shooting that occurred in Langley on September 21, 2024. According to police, the victim was 38-year-old Johnathan Hebrada-Walters, from Edmonton, Alberta.
Police said that Hebrada-Walters was known to police and initial information indicates that shooting where two victims were involved was a targeted event, linked to the ongoing BC gang conflict.
On September 21, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Langley RCMP responded to shots fired in the area of 196 Street and 84 Avenue, Langley. On arrival, first responders located two men suffering from gun-shot wounds. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other victim was being treated for injuries. The area was secured and a neighborhood canvass was underway.
A secondary scene was located at 208 Street and 78 Avenue, where the other victim was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The surviving victim, whose name was not released by the officials, was also known to police. But according to a report in Vancouver Sun, Barinder (Shrek) Dhaliwal was other victim who was taken to hospital. “Postmedia has learned that the other victim, Barinder (Shrek) Dhaliwal, was shot twice before fleeing the scene in a black SUV. He was stopped on 208th Street and 79B Avenue and rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
Forensic examinations at both scenes have been completed and homicide investigators continue to canvass for CCTV footage and witnesses.
“This investigation continues to unfold,” says Staff Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, “We are in contact with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC) as well as policing partners in Alberta to determine how these victims are linked to one another.”
