LAUTOKA – Seven people are homeless when their four-bedroom house was razed by fire on Monday. According to a family member Subramani, 52, the fire started in his daughter’s room before spreading to other rooms at the Church Rd property at Buabua in Lautoka.

Damage to the timber and tin building was estimated at more than $90,000.

The family is fortunate that the Fiji Bible Church Ambassador for Christ stepped in and provided a three-bedroom fully-furnished house for them to live in while they rebuild their house and lives.

Mr Subramani said his daughter was sleeping when she felt the heat.

“As soon as she woke she saw the ceiling and the curtain on fire. She then ran outside,” he said. “We really do not know the cause of the fire. “It is sad that we have lost everything.

“Seven people are now homeless but we are thankful to the church for providing us a home to stay in and rebuild our lives.”

He said some friends and relatives visited and gave clothes and other household items for the family to use. National Fire Authority spokesman Ritesh Kumar said investigation into the matter was continuing.
