Made at a budget of Rs.21crore and “released at the cost ofRs.32 crore with print and publicity”,the Kareena Kapoor-starrergarnered a net collection ofnearly Rs.53.50 crore worldwideby the second week, he wrote.Bhandarkar feels it is “a phenomenalverdict for a heroineorientedfilm”.
Bhandarkar had at firstannounced Heroine withAishwarya Rai, but the film gotinto trouble after it wasannounced that the actress optedout of it due to her pregnancy.Then Kareena came onboard. Heroine chroniclesbehind-the-scenes aspects of asuperstar actress’s life.It released Sep 21.

The filmmaker, known formaking films like Chandni Bar,Traffic Signal and Fashion, hasoften invited criticism for unravellingthe dark secrets.But he said: “For me, whatmatters is my honesty in my narrative.””I have always respected thecriticism but have stood strongby my convictions.Otherwise the journey fromChandni Bar to Heroine wouldhave been an impossible one totake,” he added.
