The Guru Nanak Food Bank (GNFB) successfully organized a two-day school supply drive aimed at supporting students in need as they prepare for the upcoming school session. The drive took place on August 26th in Delta and continued on the following day in Surrey, with an overwhelming show of community support and participation.
Delta School Supply Drive – August 26th
The first leg of the school supply drive commenced on August 26th in Delta. The event was marked by a commendable collaborative effort involving local authorities, community leaders, volunteers, and donors. Beginning at 11:00 am, the drive witnessed the active involvement of the Delta Police team, Councillor Jessie Dosanjh, Councillor Jennifer Joual, Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord, and the Delta Chambers of Commerce.
Volunteers played a crucial role in making the event a success, and their commitment was highlighted by the presence of Mayor George Harvie, who sent a generous donation through Councillor Jessie Dosanjh due to prior commitments. The drive received widespread support from various sections of the community, underscoring the importance of collective action in addressing the needs of underprivileged students.
Surrey School Supply Drive – August 27th
Continuing their initiative, Guru Nanak Food Bank organized the second leg of the school supply drive in Surrey on August 27th. The event was graced by the presence of volunteers from Surrey Police Services, Surrey Crime Prevention, Abbotsford Canucks, and Surrey Fire Fighters, showcasing a united effort to make a positive impact.
Mayor Brenda Lock from the City of Surrey extended her gratitude to Guru Nanak Food Bank for their tireless work and dedication to the community. MLA and Minister Harry Bains were also present to show their support, contributing school backpacks and acknowledging the significant efforts put forth by the Guru Nanak Food Bank.
At this juncture, the founder and president of Guru Nanak Food Bank expressed sincere gratitude to all the donors, volunteers, and supporters who came forward to make the school supply drive a resounding success. Notably, the entire drive was orchestrated by youth volunteers associated with Guru Nanak Food Bank, highlighting their enthusiasm and commitment to community service.
Neeraj Walia, the Operations Head of Guru Nanak Food Bank, extended an open invitation to members of the community who may have been unavailable during the weekend events. Additionally, during the ongoing summer vacation period, over 50 school children have been actively participating as volunteers with Guru Nanak Food Bank. To honor and appreciate their dedication, GNFB will be providing lunch for these young volunteers on September 4th at the Delta location.
