SURREY – Punjabi radio host and newspaper man Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal has been selected for Shiromani Punjabi Sahtik Patarkar Award at a meeting of the state-level Advisory Board of the Language Department held in Chandigarh on October 19. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Education and Languages Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan to select the names for prestigious literary awards Punjabi Sahit Ratan and Shiromani Awards for 15 different categories.
An event was recently held in Surrey to celebrate Dhaliwal’s award, where he friends felicitated him.
Ever since Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal came to Canada in 1999 from Ludhiana he maintained his zest for doing community serve after settling in Abbotsford as he had been doing back in India. It is to be appreciated that all along these years Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal has always been attached to print or electronic media in one position or the other. It is a matter of great satisfaction for us that our local guy Gurvinder Singh has been selected to receive Shiromani Punjabi Sahtik Patarkar award.
It is also to be appreciated that internationally renowned scholar and writer of about 80 books on Sikhism, Dr. Saroop Singh Alag Ludhiana has been honored by giving him Shiromani Gyan Sahitkar Award. It is highly appreciated that Dr Saroop Singh Alag has been doing most timely and valuable service of preaching universal and humanitarian aspects of Sikhism by printing and distribution free books on Sikhism with the support of donors all over the world. Dr. Saroop Singh Alag has been coming here very often. He seems to us as if he is our local scholar.
