LONDON – The mother of a three-year-old Indo-British boy, accused of murdering him, on Tuesday made her first public appearance in a court in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Rosdeep Kular, 34, is accused of beating her son Mikaeel Kular to death in January and dumping the body in a forest before sparking a futile police search by reporting him missing.

She has been charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice – the Scottish equivalent of perverting the course of justice.

Kular, who is appearing under her married name of Adekoya, has four other children, including Mikaeel’s twin sister.

She did not enter a plea during a three-minute preliminary hearing at Edinburgh’s high court on Tuesday and she is next due to appear on July 25, The Independent reported.

She was dressed in black, wore glasses and sat beside two security officers. She showed no emotion, the BBC reported.

The prosecutors alleged Adekoya beat Mikaeel on various occasions between January 12 and 15, struck his body against a hard object and inflicted blunt force trauma injuries to his head and body.

She was also accused of failing to seek medical attention and murdering him.

Hundreds of volunteers joined the search for Mikaeel after he was reported missing from his home in the Drylaw area of Edinburgh on January 16.

His body was found in woods the next day, sparking an outpouring of grief across Scotland.
