Indo-British Man Sues Former Employer For Racism

An Indo-British man hassued his former employer inLondon for over 50,000 poundsfor allegedly hurting his religiousbelief verbally, physicallyabusing him and sexually harassinghim.Harminder Dhanota, 42,claimed at the Central LondonEmployment Tribunal Mondaythat he was verbally and physicallyabused by colleagues at theLondon office of Saudi Arabianbank Samba Financial Servicesand his workmates would dislodgehis turban, the Daily Mailreported.Dhanota told the tribunalthat his boss Jack Tanna alsoinsulted his religion by showinghim porn on a mobile phone.His boss allegedly boastedabout organising prostitutes forhis Arab business associates.Dhanota, a father of threechildren, said that Tanna alsoasked him whether he was“shagging” female colleagues.He alleged that his bosswould punch his arm, twist hisfingers and whack him on thehand with a ruler.He claimed that after hestarted complaining, he wasaxed from his 37,500 pounds-ayearjob in October last year ongrounds of poor performance.He had joined the bank inJuly 2011.Prior to this job, he workedwith a company in its informationtechnology (IT) department.Dhanota told the tribunalhe was seeking 56,825 poundsfor loss of earnings and injuryto feelings.“I have always taken pridein my religion and culture andfind it upsetting and distressingwhen people mock, ridicule ordisrespect my personal beliefs,”Dhanota, a Briton of Indian origin,was quoted as saying.Dhanota said that in January2012, he reported Tanna’sabuse to the company’s humanresource department confidentially.He alleged that his objectionsonly spurred Tanna on tohumiliate him further in frontof colleagues.“At times, the physical assaultswould be so aggressive asto cause my turban to loosen,which was the cause of significantdistress to me,” he said“It is both shocking andironic that such an ethnically diversebank appears to condonesuch outrageous acts of bullying,harassment and discrimination,”Dhanota’s solicitor JayJoshi said.Samba Financial Services,however, has denied all of Dhanota’sclaims.
