RCMP Issues Rare Warning After Accused Sex Predator Shalendra Kumar Sharma!

Forty-three-year-old Shalendra Kumar Sharma of Surrey was released two days ago as he awaits trial. But police say they are worried because they believe that the Sharma is extremely dangerous.

BURNABY – Burnaby RCMP issued a rare warning to the public to be on the lookout as an Indo-Canadian man accused of sexual and violent crimes against women is released from custody.

Forty-three-year-old Shalendra Kumar Sharma of Surrey was released two days ago as he awaits trial. But police say they are worried because they believe that the Sharma is extremely dangerous. They say you should use extreme caution if you come across him.

Sharma was the subject of a news conference in February, after he was charged with four counts of sexual assault against four different women between 1994 and 2011.

He is also charged with four counts of confining women, two counts of assault and one count each of kidnapping and uttering threats.

On December 4, 2011, the Burnaby RCMP was made aware of a possible sexual assault and robbery against a woman who had been taken to a Burnaby location from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and began working closely with the Vancouver Police Department.

A second assault occurred in Burnaby on December 18, 2011, which police believed was linked to the December 4 assault. Again, the Burnaby RCMP and Vancouver PD investigators worked closely together, cross-referencing files in PRIME and other police databases. The work of a VPD sex crimes analyst allowed key pieces of the puzzle to be linked together across multiple jurisdictions.

Although police feel it’s their duty to warn the public about Sharma, police were refusing to release a photo of him.

“A photograph of Mr. Sharma is not being released at this time, as police are working with more victims who have been identified since Sharma was arrested and do not want to taint any evidence in regards to his identification using a photo pack. Once that part of the investigation is complete, Mr. Sharma’s photo will be released to the public,” police said.

But under pressure from the media – the police finally released Sharma’s photo Friday afternoon.

The following vehicles have been linked to him:

– 2007 red Ford Escape, BC license 008-RWG for the period October 2006 to present

– 2003 blue Ford Explorer for the period January 2004 to February 2010

– 1997 red Ford Explorer for the period March 1999 to October 2006

– 1991 red Pontiac Sunbird for the period January 1994 to May 1997

Mounites hope these cars may spark someone’s memory about any other assaults, sexual assaults or thefts. If you have any information, you’re ureged to call the local police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
