VANCOUVER – Indo-Canadian youth leader Jordan Sidoo was recognized this past week by the BC Provincial Government for his outstanding community service.

Sidoo, who is the youngest son of well known Indo-Canadian businessman David Sidoo, was presented with a BC Certificate of Appreciation for his tireless efforts to enhance fairness, equality; cultural appreciation and social awareness and his wonderful contribution to the success of British Columbia and our society as a whole at such a young age.

At the ceremony outgoing MLA Dave Hayer said of Sidoo’s honour: “It is great to see young role models like Jordan Sidoo, its makes me confident of the next generation. Jordan is a great kid; an honour roll student at St. George’s and the reason he is being recognized by the Government is for his vast community service. Jordan is involved with We Day, Canucks Place, Street-to-home, school breakfast programs and most recently raising funds for children’s playgrounds.”

Former BC Attorney General Wally Oppal also stated that “I have known Jordan his whole life and he is a young man, who wears his heart on his sleeve, and I am proud of the work he does, as it makes a difference in the community.”

Sidoo also recently set out to get the true meaning of Vaisakhi to the mainstream public ahead of two Vaisakhi Nagar Kiertan (Processions) in Vancouver this weekend and the biggest of them all in Surrey next weekend.

Sidoo also recently sold over $4,000 worth of pen sets in December 2012 pay for the cost to erect used playground equipment at Selkirk Elementary Annex, Cedar Cottage (from Tillicum Elementary) to replace its condemned wooden structures now used by its Kindergarten to Grade 4 students.  Together with matching funds, this covered the almost $8,000 cost to reassemble the playground equipment donated by Tillicum Elementary.

Jordan is also one of the most promising students at prestigious St. George’s Academy in Vancouver, a honours students who also excels in the sports arena as St. George’s MVP Rowing Coxwain.  Even more, he is the head of the school’s grade 11 Service Committee.  His enthusiasm does not stop at the school gates … he is also actively supporting Vancity’s “Each One Teach One” as a member, as well as contributing to Vancouver Police’s “Odd Squad” to support various initiatives to help support less advantaged youth in the city.
