Kejriwal Gives Written Assurance To Resolve Sikh Issues

AMRITSAR – Finally,Delhi’s ruling Aam AdmiParty (AAP) has taken noticeof hunger strike by Francebased human right organizationAurore-Dawn presidentIqbal Singh Bhatti and haveassured to deliver justicewith respect to his demandsin a sympathetic and timebound manner.AAP’s chief minister ArvindKejriwal in a letter written toBhatti informed that his governmentwas sympathetic to theissues raised by him and wouldtake necessary steps to ensurefull justice.Bhatti had been sitting onhunger strike since December5th, first at Gurdwara Sant BabaPrem Singh, Paris, France andthen continued his fast at JantarMantar from January 1st andhad lost nearly 18 kilogram ofweight. His demand includessetting up of fast track court tobring perpetrators of 1984 antiSikh riot victims to justice, settingup ofSpecial Investigation Team(SIT) for investigation of theriots, release of death convictDevinderpal Singh Bhullar andscrapping of black list whichprevent certain Sikhs livingabroad to visit India.However Kejriwal writes in theletter that the issues involvedwere very complex and requiredconsultations at various levels.”We will try to find the solutionssooner” reads the letter.He also informed Bhatti thatDelhi government had alreadyrecommended to the presidentfor the release of Bhullar andwould also be working on otherissues including formation ofSIT etc. in a sympathetic andtime bound manner.Arvind Kejriwal had visitedBhatti twice when he was sittingon hunger strike in JantarManter from May 8th to 30thdemanding release of Bhullarand had also sent two of hisMLA’s to meet Bhatti a few daysago.”This is for the first time thatany government has given writtenassurance to resolve Sikhsissues and I see a ray of hope”said Bhatti while talking to TOIon Tuesday. He said he wouldhold a meeting with variousSaints on Wednesday to decideover his hunger strike.
