Nanaimo Police, along with BCEHS and Fire responded to a collision between a large truck and a motorcycle. The incident occurred just at approximately 5:15 AM on Monday June 12,2023, at the intersection of Highway 19A and Oliver Road.

The motorcyclist, an adult man from Nanaimo, operating a newer model black Yamaha, sustained critical injuries in the collision and was transported to the Nanaimo hospital by attending BCEHS. Soon after arriving at the hospital, he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the truck involved, a grey Dodge D350, was not injured. He remained at the scene, co-operated with investigators, and alcohol and drugs have been ruled on his part.

While only preliminary, it appears to police that the motorcycle was proceeding north bound on Highway 19A when it collided with the pickup, that was turning left onto Oliver Road. No other vehicles or individuals were involved and a portion of the highway was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene and collected forensic evidence.

Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services have been engaged and the family of the deceased have been notified. Police are asking for anyone with dash-cam footage of the crash or pre-collision driving of the vehicles involved, to please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
