Murder Case Against Criminal Cops Ex-DGP Sumedh Saini, IGP Paramraj Umranangal Committed To Sessions Court

FARIDKOT – For framing of charges against former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and under suspension IGP Paramraj Singh Umranangal in the Behbal Kalan police firing case, the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), Faridkot, on Wednesday committed the challan in the case for trial before the court of District and Sessions Judge.

Umranangal and Saini were nominated as accused in the murder case on September 27, 2020. The Home Department of the state government had granted permission to prosecute both senior police officers on February 16 this year.

In the case under Sections 302, 307, 218, 201, 166-A, 120-B, 34, 194, 195 and 109 of the IPC and Sections 25/27 of Arms Act, the challan against other co-accused, including former Moga SSP Charanjit Sharma and many other police officials, was already committed to the sessions court as the offence under Sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code are exclusively triable by the sessions court.
